Indoor Play
From September through Spring, Toddler Play Indoor Playtime is available at the following locations/times in Chapel Hill and Carrboro.  (A great idea especially when the weather is cold or rainy!):

Chapel Hill Community Center Parent-Tot Morning Extravaganza (in the Community Center gymnasium)
Monday - Friday, 10am - Noon through April 21; Free.
Toys are available for toddlers to play with, and you can also bring your own toys that won't scratch the floor.

Carrboro Century Center Toddler Preschool Playtime (for children 5 years old and younger) in the Century Hall.
Tuesdays, 10am - 11:30am through May 16 (no playtime on March 7); $2 per child
Tumbling mat, toys, and music provided; also some directed activities.

 


Anderson Community Park
Formerly Carrboro Community Park, located at Hwy. 54 West (1/4 mile west of the 54/Old Fayetteville Road intersection.)
  55 acres of parkland has new play equipment with slides, swings and other fun stuff for kids;
baseball/softball fields (4 lighted); multi-purpose fields; basketball courts (lighted); two tennis courts; horseshoe pits; fishing pond with two trails around pond; newly fenced leash free area for dog walking; picnic tables and grills; picnic shelter; and rest rooms.
 
Note:  Extra care and attention is required; the Anderson Community Park playground areas are not contained/fenced in and are close to the parking lots.

School playground is open to the public during non-school hours.  Playground equipment, basketball court, picnic tables, youth baseball field, track (dirt) - 0.16 of a mile; open play areas.

 

Martin Luther King, Jr. Park (formerly Hillsborough Neighborhood Park)
Located on Hillsborough Rd., approximately 3 miles from downtown Carroboro. (Coming soon.)

 

Simpson Street Triangle

Smith Soccer Field
Located behind Chapel Hill High School; (A joint project of the Town of Carrboro, Orange County and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro School system.).  (919) 918-7364.
 

 Open Play for the Spring (through May 31st) is Friday 4:00p.m. until Dark.  The field also may be reserved by groups.

 

   
Carrboro Town Commons Play Area

Play equipment for ages 2-5 and small (fenced in) open space play area.  Local parents worked together to raise funds to purchase a large shade sail so that the play area is now shaded from the sun (previously it was fully exposed to the sun).
 
Shade Sail Efforts:  As of July, 2005, and for several years preceding, there have been grassroots efforts to plant shade trees and build a shade sail structure at the Carrboro Town Commons playground to provide some shade for children playing there.  For more information about fundraising efforts for the shade trees and shade sail, visit www.carrboroparks.org.

A family favorite!  New play equipment sets with swings, slides and climbing area; climbing dome, sandbox with diggers; youth baseball field (lighted); 4 lighted tennis courts; picnic tables and grills; picnic shelter; rest rooms.
