THE BIG PINK BUS
coming to the Triangle (Chapel Hill) AUG 11 9AM-1PM. The
bus will be stopping at Southern Village, on the green, in Chapel Hill.
Directions are here: http://southernvillage.com/map-directory.htm
The BIG PINK BUS is coming to the
TRIANGLE/Chapel Hill on its cross country trip (http://www.milkforthought.com/tour)
during World Breastfeeding Week and Month! This fun event celebrates
breastfeeding and family health. Activities are planned for kids and
families as well as a lot of opportunities to learn more about birth and
breastfeeding happenings across the Triangle.
The Latch On America Tour started with an
initial idea to rent an RV and drive cross country to meet all the amazing
supporters and moms who are taking action for the breastfeeding community.
Now, because of the excitement and overwhelming response, the trip has
gotten bigger, with a 40-foot bus and stops in more than 30 cities!
The goals of the Latch On America Tour
include supporting the 20 steps of the Surgeon General’s Call to Action for
breastfeeding, connecting new moms with lactation experts, increasing
awareness for local breastfeeding resources, and learning about and
documenting the unique breastfeeding culture in each city. Along the way, a
documentary crew will capture the amazing breastfeeding stories of mothers
and advocates as well as profiling organizations that are taking action to
empower breastfeeding moms.
From the website: "Experience the bucolic scenery of farm life as you pedal
through gently rolling terrain. Join the Carolina Tarwheels Bicycle Club
for this annual event that brings up to 850 riders to Downtown
Hillsborough for the Family Funride or on to the rural vistas along quiet
country roads of Orange County. For registration information click

More about the Perseids (from
http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy_calendar_2009.html:)
"The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up
to 60 meteors per hour at their peak. This year's peak occurs on the
morning of August 12, but you may be able to see some meteors any time
from July 23 - August 22. The waning gibbous moon will provide some
interference in the early morning, so the best viewing will be in the
evening before it rises. The radiant point for this shower will be in
the constellation Perseus. Look to the northeast after midnight."
