 A TEMPORARY waste center is open at 6823 Millhouse Rd.
Hours of operation are the same as listed above for the (temporarily closed) Eubanks Rd. center,
however services at 6823 Millhouse Rd. are LIMITED to household garbage, bulky items, electronics,
scrap metal, and yard waste. Construction is expected to be completed by December 2017.

Sites with Salvage Sheds Reusable items in good condition can be taken to the Salvage Sheds.
The following items are NOT ACCEPTED at the Salvage Sheds: (do NOT bring these items to the Salvage Sheds) clothing, carpet, construction material, yard sale remnants, broken furniture or trash items.

The Orange County Waste and Recycling Centers accept residential household trash only, as well as bulky items such as upholstered furniture.
(No business waste.)
LIMITATIONS and RESTRICTIONS:
Loads are limited to one pick-up truck per day or weekend period.
Loads must be secured.
Mattresses and box springs are not accepted.

Recyclable Items for Drop-Off Sites AND Solid Waste Convenience Centers

Glass bottles, jugs and jars, plastic bottles, steel, aluminum, aerosol spray cans, aluminum foil, magazines, newspaper, phone books and mixed paper.

Corrugated cardboard (multi-layered cardboard). Do NOT include wax-coated boxes, or packing material (no peanuts or other packing materials)
 

Additional Items accepted ONLY at Solid Waste Convenience Centers

#1, #6 or #7 boxes, clamshells, or styrofoam
(but no plastic bags or other non-rigid plastics). 

Household Trash and Bulky Items such as furniture. One load per household per day limit. Orange County Residents only.

Yard Waste: Limit one load per day or weekend period. Not available at Bradshaw Quarry Center.

Clean Wood Waste. Unpainted, untreated wood and pallets, Limit one load per day or weekend period.

Large Appliances: Limit two per day or weekend period.

Scrap Metal - Limit one load per day or weekend period

Tires Limit five per month

Electronics Computers, TVs stereos and other data carrying devices and electronic media (DVDs CDsw and their cases)

ALL Batteries (Automotive and household)

Salvage Sheds - All centers except Bradshaw Quarry Rd. accept REUSABLE household items in good condition. Do NOT leave clothing, carpet, construction material or trash items at the Salvage Sheds.

Used Motor Oil, Oil Filters, Antifreeze

Recycle with motor oil: Heating Oil, Gear Oil, Coleman Fuel, Kerosene, Diesel Fuel, Transmission Fluid.

Do NOT include: Gasoline, Brake Fluid, solvents, mixed gas.

to one of the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Locations:

Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Saturdays 8 am - 12 noon.

Materials should be in their original containers with original labels intact whenever possible. 
Never mix wastes. Do NOT bring explosives, infectious wastes, or radioactive materials.

Curbside Recycling Bins

Requirements for commingling plastics / paper / tin cans etc. and restrictions on which kinds of  materials can or cannot be included in curbside recycling bins in Orange County have changed over the years and are subject to change.

See the current Orange County Curbside Recycling charts
(2 programs: Urban and Rural)
to learn which kinds of (commingled)
plastics, papers, bottles, cans etc. are accepted in curbside recycling.

These charts also specify which kinds of materials
can only be taken to Solid Waste Recycling centers.

NO PLASTIC BAGS are accepted in curbside recycling.

Plastic bags ALSO are NOT accepted at the recycling centers in Chapel Hill/Orange County.

 Take clean, dry plastic bags to your local grocery store for recycling.
