First Night Raleigh 2007 presented by Artsplosure
2 pm until Midnight.
Annual family-friendly New Year's celebration held in downtown Raleigh.  Over 100 performances at 25 locations.
  Admission "buttons" which participants wear pinned to their coats or hats go on sale December 1st at over 70 outlets, including Harris Teeter stores in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill area.  Button prices:  all buttons are $9 in advance (ages 5 and under free); at the event, buttons for for kids age 6-12 are $10 and $12 for adults. 

2 - 6pm:  The Children's Celebration
7pm - Early Acorn Drop (a count down to the New Year at 7pm so that families with younger children can enjoy watching the Acorn drop without waiting until midnight.)  Evening Performances begin featuring 100 performances in 25 downtown Raleigh venues 
10:30 pm: Main Stage entertainment begins.

Giant consignment fair offers gently used kids' & maternity clothes, baby equipment, furniture, toys and much more.

Enjoy exhibits, food and a free "Natural Horror Picture Show" movie from 5 - 9 pm every First Friday of the month at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences.
  This Friday the movie will be "The Phantom Planet" (1961), starting at 7 pm.  (Description of the film from the Museum's website:  "See a 6-foot astronaut shrink to six inches before your very eyes! See the Moon Maidens! See the attack of the Fire People! Arrive early for a film short from the AV Geeks archive."  Also featured will be live music with The Scarlet Divide. 6 pm; beverages and snacks will be available from the Acro Cafe.

Carnival of the Animals presented by the NC Symphony (Young People's Series) at the Meymandi Concert Hall, Raleigh, NC.
January 7, 2006, shows at 11 am and 2 pm.
From the NC Symphony website:  "Take a trip to our musical zoo with Camille Saint-Saëns’s Carnival of the Animals dubbed the “grand zoological fantasy." Joan Landry leads the North Carolina Symphony in the fantastic animal parade. Through the magic of music, you’ll hear lions roaring, hens clucking, a slow-moving tortoise, lumbering elephants, happy kangaroos, braying donkeys, swans-a-swimming, and even a cuckoo here or there. Perfect for the whole family, this performance is musical storytelling at its best. ."

53rd Antique & Collectible Toy-Doll & Hobby Show.  Raleigh, NC State Fairgrounds, Kerr Scott Building.  Free parking.  225 tables of modern to antique toys & collectibles, dolls, Barbie, Nascar, action figures, western toys, comics, coins, etc. Sat. 9-4 and Sun. 10-4. Admission adults $5 adults daily; $7 weekend pass, ages 15 & under free.

Lollipop Series for Children presents "Animalia" with Hobey Ford's Golden Rod Puppets at the Carrboro Century Center, 100 N. Greensboro St., Carrboro
Wednesday, January 24, 2007, 10:30am - 11:30am.
Animalia explores the world of animals through Hobey's incredibly realistic carved foam puppets, as butterfly and frog metamorphosize before your eyes; birds, whales, frolicking dolphins, a wolf, and otter soar through the theater.  Hobey breaks out of the traditional puppeteer booth turning the entire theater into his performance stage with a collection of large animal puppets that soar above the heads of the audience and dive and swim throughout the theater.
$3 per participant; Ages: 3 - 5.
