See the Perseid Meteor Shower
at Jordan Lake's Ebenezer Church Recreation Area
(Near U.S. 64)
Saturday, August 12, 2006, 9:00pm - 11:00pm  2007 EVENT INFORMATION AND DATE TBA - PEAK PERSEID METEOR SHOWERS EXPECTED TO PEAK AUGUST 12 and 13, 2007
Educators from the Morehead Planetarium will bring telescopes for those who want to see the moon and Jupiter more clearly, and will offer guidance.  The Perseid meteor showers appear in the area of the constellation Perseus in the north-eastern sky.  Bring a blanket or lawn chairs.  In case of inclement weather, check www.moreheadplanetarium.org or call (919) 549-6863 for a cancellation notice.

More about the Perseids (from http://www.seasky.org/astronomy/astronomy_calendar_2007.html:)  "The Perseids is one of the best meteor showers to observe, producing up to 60 meteors per hour at their peak. The shower will peak this year on August 13, but you may be able to see some meteors from July 23 - August 22. The moon will be completely absent this year, so this should be a spectacular show with even the faintest meteors being visible. The radiant point for this shower will be in the constellation of Perseus. Look to the northeast."

A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Toussaint has been producing, writing, and arranging hit records for a host of prominent New Orleans artists and has been covered by the Rolling Stones and Bonnie Raitt, among countless others. He’s also a gifted pianist and performer. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see the master at work.
