The Chapel Hill Parks
website includes a map to greenways and trails at www.chapelhillparks.org/images/hmpg/trails_map.pdf.
The Chapel Hill Transit Bus map includes a map of the local bike paths.
(We did not find the map at the Chapel Hill Transit website, www.chtransit.org,
however.)
There is a map showing the Carrboro pike
paths at page 37 of the document located at http://townofcarrboro.com/BoA/Agendas/2004/10_12_2004_2A.pdf)

for a map of local mountain bike trails.
Franklin Street Cycles has a map
of bicycle trails on the wall. Performance Bicycle in
Carroboro said that they do not have a map of local bike paths (but
if you visit or call they may have some suggestions about good local
bike routes).

Center Park |

There is a paved bike path
that leads from the Community Center park (on Estes, across from
University Mall) to Airport Road.
Located at 120
South Estes Drive, (across from the Main Post
Office and University Mall; 1 1/2 miles NE of downtown Chapel Hill ).

| Homestead Park
(aka the "Dinosaur
Park") and Chapel Hill Skate Park
and Batting Cages; Homestead Dog Park

Homestead Park has a short
paved path that runs through the park, along the play equipment, and
back out to the Parkside neighborhood.
From Airport Road, turn west onto Homestead Road,
take a right onto Northern Park Drive which leads to Homestead Park
(located 3 miles North of downtown Chapel Hill, 2 blocks west of Airport
Rd. off Homestead Rd. (919) 929-9031

Umstead Park |

There is a short paved bike
path at the Umstead Park that runs
along the playground equipment. Climbing structures and
sand to play in; bridge, stream and path through the woods.
Located 1 1/2 miles NE of
downtown Chapel Hill west of Airport Rd, on Umstead Rd.

Libba Cotton Bike Path |

In Carrboro, the Libba Cotton Bike
Path (between Roberson St. and Brewer Lane) begins behind Armadillo
Grill and goes all the way to Cameron Street in Chapel Hill. Many
parents enjoy riding this path with their young children.

Francis Shetley Bike Path |

Also in Carrboro, the Francis
Shetley Bike Path is a short (about 3/4 mile) paved bike path that leads
from the intersection of Greensboro and Estes to the elementary school
at Shelton St. (This path is basically a short cut from Greensboro
St. to the school.)

Wilson Park Mountain Bike Trails |

There are some mountain bike
trails beginning at Wilson Park in Carrboro (Wilson Park is located off
Greensboro St., not far from downtown Carrboro.) Visit www.trianglemtb.com

Tobacco Trail - Durham, Chatham and Wake Counties |

"The American Tobacco Trail is a 22+ mile rails-to-trails project located in the Triangle Region of North Carolina. The route crosses through the City of Durham; Durham, Chatham, and Wake counties; the planning jurisdictions of the Towns of Cary and Apex; and passes through the Lake Jordan project land of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers."

| Raleigh Bike
Path and Greenways |

If you are feeling adventurous
(and don't mind driving a while to reach the bike path), there is a bike
path and greenways in Raleigh (the Reedy Creek Greenway) that goes
through the NC Museum of Art sculpture gardens and connects with two
area colleges campuses (Meredith College is one of them). The
